Dietrich
W. Miesler
His life’s journey began in Breslau, Germany on July
20th 1925. On May 22, 2006, Dieter Werner Miesler departed
on that greatest of trips following complications of
pneumonia and long standing Parkinson’s disease.
Dietrich entered the massage field in 1975 and founded the
DAYBREAK Geriatric Massage Project (now known as the
DAYBREAK Geriatric Massage Institute) in 1982. With a
background as a gerontologist and a nursing home
administrator, he brought significant knowledge and caring
to his elderly clients through therapeutic massage. He
produced numerous courses, teaching aids about the muscle
system and massage treatments tailored to geriatric clients
with varying needs. He was also a long-time columnist for
Massage & Bodywork magazine.
Dietrich left his native Germany in 1955 and moved to the
United States, where he raised his five children and pursued
his varied artistic interests, including jazz, photography,
and publishing. In 2001, he left DAYBREAK to focus on
research and writing.
We will miss his irrepressible, witty, charming spirit.

Virginia Kingsbury, CMT
Virginia left the insurance industry with the intention of
working with seniors. A year after graduating from massage
school, a chance conversation with Dietrich Miesler in 1997 led
her to her first geriatric massage workshop with Sharon Puszko.
She has been with DAYBREAK since. In addition to private
clients, she also worked in the DAYBREAK administrative office
and volunteered with St. Vincent Hospice program. Virginia
completed the Instructor Certification Program in 2001. After
Sharon became the owner of DAYBREAK, Virginia was instrumental
in launching DAYBREAK to becoming the leading geriatric massage
training program that it is today. Wanting to add to her direct
experience with seniors, she left the DAYBREAK office for 2 ½
years to join the nursing staff at a long term care facility.
She is now back in the office and can still be found in the
field disseminating Dietrich’s methods of bringing comfort to
older bodies.
